Visiting a legend

I am not sure why it took me 20 years in the business, but I finally paid a visit to the William Marvy Company. I was in town for a show and stayed an extra day for a class at a school. It would be impossible not to go to see the factory. I was treated to the grand tour. The family showed off their vast private collection of barber memorabilia. My favorites were some of the framed copies of old product ads from the company’s early years. The building has recently been treated to a multi-year exterior overhaul to bring it up to the grandeur of many years ago. The picture included with this post id from the street out front. Marvy is a long time Andis customer and we are proud to associate with another strong family business in the professional beauty industry with generations of dedicated stewards. Thank you again for your hospitality and continued enthusiasm for the Andis brand.

Meet Bob Ohnstad

I presented a class at a 115 year old Moler school in Mineap this week. I met Bob Ohnstad there. He is a bit younger. He produces a series of clipper cutting dvds. I hope to have a look at them soon and I will post reviews here after I have seen them. Have a look at Justin. That is a mighty nice Andis Master tattoo. Justin sent in a few pictures of his highly skilled clipper work and the shot you see here of his arm. Sneak Peek

I had an early sample of an upcoming new Andis tool with me in Northern California this week. I provided sneak peeks to a few hair cutters to gauge their interest in this new tool. Slam dunk. It was a lot of fun to see their reactions and feel their excitement. It will be even more fun when we can sell it to them. Can’t wait. Stay tuned. You will learn more soon.

Will I see you at the West Coast show this weekend? I do not appear in the west too often. This is a great opportunity for me and Northern Calif. to get together. I hate this gel

I have a pile of new samples of gel. I do not like any of them. I feel like I am starring in the clipperguy version of the 3 little bears. This gel is toooo firm. This gel is toooo soft, this gel is too flaky. I am sure there is a gel out there that is just right. Problem is it is not in my bathroom right now. I got a clipper cut this past week… like every other week… except, I have fallen into a pattern of dropping in to new shops lately. Sorry Roy. I do miss you, and I will be back. This was a nice, classic barber shop. 4 guys cutting. I wound up in the last chair… typically NOT a good sign. The cut was O.K. The guy had good basic skills. He cut the top a bit too short so I am back to a classic buzz and spike. Not so bad, but heavily dependant on good gel. This stuff is not the good stuff.
