Business builder tip of the week, week 13, 2010

Here is your Ivan Zoot / ClipperGuy / Andis business Builder tip of the week for week 13, 2010.

Week 13
Track the weather – Keep a log book of the weather as a part of your business tracking. All the major retailers do this. Historical data, the more the better, helps you plan scheduling, understand trends and forecast for growth. Do not make this too complicated. Key information should include temperature, precipitation and cloud cover. When this information is combined with historical sales statistics, you are armed to make better business decisions.

Might seem goofy... but it is really important. More info = better decisions.

Clipper cutting word of the week, the letter L

Here is your Ivan Zoot / Andis clipper cutting vocabulary word of the week for week 13, 2010.

This week it is time for the letter L.

Layer Cutting – Haircutting technique in which a progression of length is created, increasing from the interior of the head to the perimeter. This creates the effect of the hair lying in layers.

In simple terms: Layering is created any time hair is held up away from the head at an angle higher than parallel to the floor. The stacked look of the ends of the hair in the perimeter of the haircut is caller graduation... but from the top down it is called layering. Increased layering and uniform layering are forms of layering to be discussed in specific later in the week.

Here is a basic layered look on ladies longer hair.

Here is one on a guy.

Inspirational Quotes

I love inspirational quotes. I save them. I share them.
One of my favorite sources of inspiration is Og mandino.
I stumbled upon a web site with a treasure trove of Og mandino quotes. I will share a few here from time to time.

The Og Mandino book The Greatest Salesman in the world has always been one of my favorites. http://www.amazon.com/Greatest-Secret-World-Og-Mandino/dp/0553280384/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1268764180&sr=8-6 Here is the link for that book. Warning... The book does have a pretty strong religious angle... Just a warning... the book is great... even if it is not your religion of choice. The message is still solid.

This weeks quote:

Act now. For now is all you have.

Jarhead – A high and tight military haircut in which the upper interior is cut in a short uniform and blended way up past the crestline. Gets its name from having the look of the screw-on lid of a mason jar.

Business builder tip of the week, week 11, 2010

Here is your Ivan Zoot / Andis clipper business builder tip of the week for week 11, 2010.

Send postcards – Once you have begun capturing client information, use it. Thank you postcards for new clients are a nice touch. Reminder postcards for prebookers reduce no-shows. Discount postcards for referrers of new clients help to keep the referrals coming. They are fast and easy to complete and they are less expensive than letter stamps too. You can fill out all the cards for the day just before you leave and pop them in the mail on the way home. Your local copy shop can print them up very inexpensively. You can use fill-in templates to keep it simple.

In this day of extreme high tech, a little low tech can go a long way. Post cards are as old as the Pony Express, but still just as effective.

Clipper tip of the week, week 10, 2010

Here is your Ivan Zoot / Andis clipper tip of the week for week 10, 2010

Snap On – Always engage a detachable blade on a clipper when the clipper is running. This avoids damaging the drive pin.

High powered, detachable blade clippers are more popular than ever... and there are a few important points that are different than on the kinds of clippers. This tip for proper blade engagement is one of them. My reminder is On, On / Off either. You put a blade on when the clipper is on. You can take a blade off when the clipper is on or off... but on, on.

Here is a Youtube video on just this subject. watch!

Here is your Ivan Zoot / Clipperguy / Andis clipper word of the week for week 11, 2010. We are up to the letter I.

Induction Cut – An all-over 000 clipper cut. Gets its name from the haircuts received on induction day into the U.S. Military. Slightly shorter than a burr cut. Slightly longer than a dry shave. Welcome to boot camp. This one is a fave with home hair cutters the world over. This is also known as an OOPS cut. You try a hair cut. OOPS. Things do not go well. You take it all down and start over. This is your hair cut.

If you like the vocabulary words, but are not patient to wait for them all one at a time... You can buy the entire book. ClipperGuy Says... Talk the Talk. Read this!

Just sharing what I am reading. I read this. You should too.
Seth Godin. I have read lots of his stuff. I do not seem to have read them in order as this is his latest ... and I have now started another form him which is an earlier work. I can not keep track.., but I do not miss anything he writes. basic premise... be a linchpin, not just a cog i the machine. Do not take this the wrong way... but, I believe on this one he was preaching to the choir. I think I am a linchpin. Are you?
