The Art of Manliness

This is a book I read recently. If you are a man, know a man or if you are in the business of barbering and interested in the world of men, this book needs to be read. It would be a great Bar Mitzvah or graduation gift as a young person becomes a man. It is a great way to mark this rite of passage and hopefully assist in making them a real man. it will give them a chance to be the kind of man wish to be and women wish more men were. Link here.

The Barbering panel discussion at Bronner Bros. Feb, 2011

Something new and different this time at Bronner Bros. There will be a Q&A panel discussion in the barbering classroom. This is a FREE program included with your Bronner show ticket. The Bronner Competiton, Feb, 2011

The Bonner Bros./Andis clipper cutting competition will be on Sunday morning February 20, 2011 at the Bronner show. This one will be a design competition. the FREE Andis tools will be the Andis red Superliner. Registration is $100 at the door. Limit 48 spots. Win or lose you get to keep the Superliner and the rest of the Andis gift bag. There are trophies and cash on the line as well. will be there to MC the competition along with the team from Bronner. MLB at ISSE w Andis

ISSE Long Beach was the debut of the MLB team cutting on stage with Andis for 2011. We rotated them in with our team members. They rocked some great cuts. Be on the lookout for MLB cutters on stage with us all year at all of the major hair shows. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase the talent of major league Barbers. Thank you guys for your great presentations.

The aftermath - a hands on workshop

This is what was left in the wake of the participants at the hands-on workshop at ISSE Long Beach. The room was a mess... Heads were spinning... both the attendees and the mannequins. Much was learned. Much fur was flying. The "models" were thoroughly clippered. next hands on for Andis and me is in Chicago at ISSE Midwest. Are you registered? Be there to have your share of the fun, the learning and the mess. best part s... we do NOT clean up. We leave it for the maint. crew. Thank you crew for your clean up efforts.

Curly Girl, The Handbook

On a recent trip to NYC I had dinner with curly hair wizard (wizardess? is there a female form of wizard?) Lorraine Massey of Deva Concepts and Curly Girl fame. Lorraine has completed the second edition of her best selling curly hair bible, Curly Girl. Link here.
Back in the day I had copies of the first edition in my shop to loan out to frustrated curly haired clients. The 2nd edition raises the bar and improves on edition one.
Lorraine gifted me a signed copy.
If you have curly hair, work on curly hair or just need to know you should get a copy of the new handbook.

If you work behind the chair you should be following this web site. I have been a member for years, since they launched. Good stuff, frequent updates, lots of news and info on our business... Only fault... NEVER any clipper cutting, very little guys info... Their editorial policy is pay-to-play. They typically only feature content from advertisers. I get it. I understand the business side of it. Andis does not buy advertising there, so we do not get editorial exposure. hey, so it goes... But I still keep an eye and an ear on it for other stuff. Get what they have there... Get your clipper stuff from me and Andis here and elsewhere.

an attendee for a change

I had the rare opportunity to be an attendee as opposed to a presenter at a recent hair event. I attended the recent Expo for the Arrojo hair care brand in NYC.
This was a great event. I learned a number of interesting hair cutting techniques... look for some upcoming haircuts from me to be a bit different...
I met and networked with some very talented salon professionals.
I even picked up a number of ideas that Andis can use to enhance and improve on our educational offerings... more on these ideas in some upcoming blogs.
I will post a few images of the work here as well. This image is of the team member who presented the men's collection. The cut was classic James dean pomp with great internal texture.
