In the run up to this years NBA All Star game Allen Iverson decided to embrace President Barack Obama's call for change. Gone was the long hair for the braids in favor of a crisp and professional Obama cut. The bad boy of basketball as he used to be know is now looking down right executive. Of course Andis tools were the tools of choice for delivering this new look. The world famous Andis Master and category leading Andis T-Outliner were deftly wielded by Iversons barber.

Awards and Coincidence
Awards of coincidence
I spend the morning with the students at Atlanta area tech. The barber program there, under the direction of Mr. Jim Harris, has just recognized by barbershipdigest.com as the best barber program in the state of Georgia. I can see why. This is a very strong program. The students are respectful, energized and ready to learn. It is refreshing to get up in front of a group of students for a presentation and look out over a room filled with crisp white jackets, white shirts and neckties. It is a bit of a throwback to the good old days of classic barbering and that is not a bad thing.
The coincidence comes in the fact that just this week as well Andis was awarded the recognition by that same group as having created the “barber tool of the year” in the NEW Andis Phat Master. It is nice for us to get that recognition…. And to know that we are in some good company.
I am looking forward to my return trip to Atlanta Tech College on my next trip through town.

More shared video
Have a look at this. Have you seen this before. I actually traveled to Indiana for a day way back when to visit with an old barber and learn how to do this.

The singeing tapers as they are called are no longer available. High melt point, dripless wax is need to make these properly and this is not easily available. You can sometimes find a old partial box of them at an antique shop.
Thanks again to my friend Phil Tritton from the North of England for passing along this video. He finds interesting stuff all the time.

Video sharing
This is funny. This is also not funny.
But most of all this is another great reason to cut hair with a clipper.
Have a look.

Trendspotting 2009 ISSE show
40’s inspired hair
I tend to be pretty good at trend spotting. Looking over a vast sea of clothes, hair and style, where are the trends? What is new? What is popular? What is looking fresh? What is seemingly dated?
One of the big trends to appear on the floor at ISSE this year is/was 1940’s inspired hair styles on women. World War II victory rolls, half up, half down, soft flowing curls Styles that looked like there was time and effort put into creating something cold be seen frequently. A lot of hair looked very deliberate as opposed to rolling out of bed fashion. Many of the stylists who sported these looks were clearly proud of their efforts and when complimented on them they truly appreciated the fact that someone took not only the time to notice, but also to say something. I guess compliments never really do go out of style. I am curious to see if thie style and look is to prove a bit regional and be less prevelant in Chicago at ABS in just a few weeks. At the very least this will bode well for soft hold styling products, hot rollers, curling iron and hair sprays. Are we seeing the peaking of the flat iron?

Yakkin with Yafchak
Well Hi Everyone.. It's February and almost Valentine's Day! A great gift to consider for someone you love is an Andis Clipper. We sell clippers for the hairdresser at home and awesome clippers for the professional, if you may work with your husband or wife in the salon. If any of you went to the Long Beach show, I know you've seen a lot and learned a lot and hopefully picked up some Andis Clippers. Hope to see you at some upcoming shows. Happy Clippering.
